US releases baby stroller standard ASTM F833-19
On April 16,2019, the ASTM Committee issued the F833-191 standard for infant horizontal and sitting trolley safety performance specifications.
The main change of the new standard is the provision of the protective cover of the tray or handrail bar.
Tray or handrail holder is a component designed to prevent exposure of the lower accessible foam material.
Protective cover materials include woven, knitted, coated, laminated, extruded or calendered textile materials and leather.
ASTM F833-19 requires that the tray or handrail rod does not contain foam material.
Otherwise, the cover shall prevent the exposure of the next layer of foam when testing the new disassembly test method.
In addition, tray or handrail bar with removable cover must be marked on the foam with the following specific warnings:
“WARNING Children can choke on foam. Only use with cover installed.”
In addition to the cover requirements, the revision includes other updates, such as unifying static load units, revised reference names, and editorial modifications.
The baby stroller is controlled at 16 CFR 1227.
In June 2016, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) listed the previous ASTM F833-15 standard as a mandatory 2 standard for children, effective from October 2016.
The committee is expected to replace the old standard with the new standard.
