Electrical / Electronic Product Safety Standard UL62368

UL 62368 is an electrical / electronic product safety standard, also known as a IEC 62368 or a EN 62368.

It is an international standard for all types of electronic and electrical equipment, including household appliances, information technology equipment, office equipment, medical equipment, audio / video equipment, and so on.

UL 62368 Replacing the early UL 60950 and UL 60065 standards in 2018,

UL 62368 The goal of the standard is to ensure the safety of electronic and electrical products in normal use and abnormal conditions.

It focuses on the safety of the user and determines whether the product meets the safety requirements by evaluating the design, structure and materials, as well as the associated performance and testing requirements.

UL 62368 Standards mainly include three aspects:

1. Overall safety design: The standard requires that the product be designed and structured to reduce risks and protect users from potential harm.

This means that the electrical, mechanical and thermal management parts of the product all need to be considered together.

The design and material selection of the products should ensure that the user is not at the risk of danger or electric shock under normal use and abnormal conditions.

2. Risk assessment: The standard requires the manufacturer to conduct a risk assessment of the product to identify potential hazards and safety issues.

Manufacturers need to identify and reduce the risks that may arise during the use of the product and take corresponding measures to reduce these risks.

This includes designing and testing key components and systems for the product and identifying potential failure modes.

3. Performance and test requirements: The standard specifies a series of test standards and requirements to assess whether the product meets the safety performance requirements.

These tests include electrical safety tests, mechanical safety tests, thermal management tests,

and reliability tests, etc.

The manufacturer needs to conduct relevant experiments and tests, and optimize the product according to the results to ensure that the product meets the requirements of the standards.

UL 62368 Mainly focuses on the following aspects:

1. Design safety: The standard requires the product designers to conduct a risk assessment and take appropriate measures to reduce the possibility of potential hazards.

2. Material selection: it is required to choose materials that will not cause fire or materials, and materials that will not cause harm to human body.

3. Short circuit and current protection: The standard requires that the product shall have short circuit and current protection functions to prevent potential electrical fire risk.

4. Heat dissipation design: the heat dissipation design of the product is effective enough to prevent the fire risk caused by overheating.

5. Equipment signs and warnings: The standard requires that the product should be marked and warned to remind users of potential safety risks and correct operation methods.

The implementation of

UL 62368 has an important impact on manufacturers, designers and suppliers.

Manufacturers and designers are required to conduct product design, material selection, and production process control according to the requirements provided by the standard.

The supplier needs to ensure that the supplied components meet the standard requirements.
