What is RoHS

RoHS, short for Restriction of Hazardous Substances, is a certification for limiting the use of certain harmful substances in electrical and electronic products.

The main purpose of RoHS certification: is to limit the use of 10 harmful substances of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBDE and PBBs, tetra-brominated diphenyl ether, polychlorinated biphenyl, short chain chlorofaffin, tributybutyl tin composition in electrical and electronic products, in order to reduce the harm of these substances to human health and the environment.

Test method and equipment of RoHS:

1. ICP-OES

Induction-coupled plasma emission spectroscopy, which is the most commonly used method in RoHS detection, is mainly used for the detection of lead, chromium, cadmium and other metal elements.

The principle is to atomize the sample solution and produce plasma, for qualitative and quantitative analysis through the elemental characteristic emission spectra.

2. ICP-MS

Induction-coupled plasma mass spectrometry, is also an important method of RoHS detection, used for the detection of cadmium, mercury and other metal elements.

The principle is to atomize the sample and produce plasma, and then use the mass analyzer to separate each ion for qualitative and quantitative analysis.

3. GC-MS

Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry combined technology, mainly used for the detection of PBDE, PBBs and other bromide flame retardants.

The principle is to use gas chromatography to separate the components of Samples, and then use the mass spectrum for analytical homogeneity and quantitative analysis.

GC-MS is an important means for RoHS to detect bromine-series flame retardants.

4. UV-Vis spectrophotometer

For the determination of some substances with a quantitative correspondence between solution color and concentration, such as the detection of hexavalent chromium.

The principle is the quantitative analysis according to the light absorbance of different compounds at a specific wavelength.

5. Evaporative weight method

For the rapid qualitative and quantitative analysis of PBBs and PBDEs in several polymeric materials, the principle is to pass a solvent elution method of Most, combined with gas chromatography for detection.

6. In addition to the above mainstream methods, there are X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, liquid chromatography in some cases applications.

Familiar with the RoHS detection method, which has a good reference role in judging the RoHS testing ability of the third-party institutions.
